Lead Network Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, design, implement, and provide ongoing support of network systems of high complexity in extranet, backbone, and corporate environments to fulfill business needs for performance and cost benefits
  • Serve as a technical lead for hardware installation, configuration, and operational support of these networks’ routers, switches, load balancers, WAN optimizers
  • Serve as technical a lead for WAN Optimization, working with application owners and clients to fine-tune WAN links for optimal performance
  • Provide 3rd level technical support to clients and to technical teams to resolve network issues and to support the implementation of new network solutions
  • Evaluate new technology and bring opportunities forward that would improve the future network architecture, performance, and network services
  • Ensure full compliance for all network architecture, designs, and implementations both past and present
  • Ensure all changes go through appropriate review, change control, and acceptance before implementation
  • Lead development, testing and QA functions to ensure that projects are securely delivered and fulfill expectations
  • Build and maintain relationships with teams and third parties on network development or support issues
  • Provide highest level of technical consultancy to ensure problem resolution is achieved in the shortest possible time frame
  • Work with the Information Security team to ensure solutions deployed meet company security requirements and provide technical assistance for investigation and analysis of security alerts
  • Development of processes and procedures for use by the Network team and third parties in the management of network environments
  • Develop and position solutions and build plans to effectively gain buy-in from all participants
  • Develop and streamline processes to further improve delivery of Network and Telecommunication services
  • Provide recommendations to management team to increase effectiveness of organization and technology solutions

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Degree (Bachelors of Arts (BA) or Bachelors of Science (BS)) preferred
  • At least 5 years related experience in infrastructure/network environments and designing, planning, documenting and implementing LANs and WANs using latest technology
  • At least 3 years of experience in a Sr. Network Engineering role
  • CCNA certification required
  • CCNP certification a plus
  • Expertise on IP Technologies and extensive knowledge of WAN technologies such as MPLS, ATM and Frame Relay
  • Expert engineering knowledge of network hardware, specifically Cisco routers and switches, with a strong focus on data center technology such as Cisco Nexus and campus technology such as Cisco InstantAccess
  • Extensive experience and expertise on IP routing protocols such as EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP
  • Expert engineering knowledge of WAN optimization technology, including Riverbed Steelhead, to optimize application traffic across the WAN links
  • Knowledge of Cisco encryption technologies (IPSec, SSL), and hot standby protocols HSRP and VRRP
  • Advanced understanding of TCP/IP network protocols, including common application protocols
  • Experience in high-availability networks in load-balanced, n-tier application environments
  • Experience with Cisco wireless technology
  • Ability to work in a fast-pace environment; ability to multi-task, change direction, effectively prioritize, and meet deadlines
  • ITIL certification preferred
